THIGH/ARM LIFT

In today's world, there is an increasing focus on health and fitness. This means that there are many people who have undertaken a weight loss regimen and bariatric surgery to lose weight. Through these methods, they have experienced a great deal of weight loss and are understandably excited about their accomplishment.

The problem with losing such an incredible amount of weight is that some parts of the body shrink back to their original size and some do not. Parts of the body more susceptible to sagging and drooping are the arms and thighs. After all that work to lose the weight, to have such a problem is an enormous disappointment.

Skin that sags and droops after losing a great deal of weight will probably never retract to its original shape. The arms and thighs cannot be toned up, no matter what exercises are done. These saggy body areas are often a source of embarrassment and cause a person to be self-conscious. In addition, a person's self-esteem may suffer, and they will begin to wear clothes to cover up the arms and thighs.

For people suffering from excess skin and drooping arms and thighs, the Thigh Lift and the Arm Lift are the perfect answer.

WHAT ARE THIGH AND ARM LIFTS?

THIGH LIFT

The Thigh Lift is performed to remove excess skin and fat (if needed) from the thigh and knee area. Dr. Solomon will sometimes recommend that liposuction be performed in conjunction with the Thigh Lift to remove excess fat from the area where the surgery is being performed.

Dr. Solomon starts by giving each patient a customized, individual consultation. During the consultation, the patient will be encouraged to discuss their aesthetic goals and expectations for the outcome of the surgery. Dr. Solomon will also answer any questions that the patient may have.

During the consultation, Dr. Solomon will determine the amount of skin and fat that needs to be removed.

THE PROCEDURE

Generally, the amount of skin that needs to be removed and the area being treated determines the length of incisions and the resulting scars. Dr. Solomon utilizes both the short scar and traditional techniques.

Dr. Solomon makes a short incision in the groin area, above the bikini line. If there is a lot of skin and fat that needs to be removed, or if the knees also need to be lifted, Dr. Solomon will make vertical incisions on the insides of the legs.

Dr. Solomon removes excess skin, fat and tissue from the thighs during the surgery. He uses sutures to close the skin, muscle and tissue. After the surgery, Dr. Solomon places drainage tubes to reduce swelling and get rid of excess fluid. A compression garment is usually worn by the patient to help with swelling and protect the patient's new figure.

If the surgery is very extensive, Dr. Solomon may recommend a short stay in the hospital. Most patients are up and about in a few weeks.

ARM LIFT

For people with droopy and sagging upper arms, the Arm Lift, or Brachioplasty, is the perfect solution. Arm Lifts help patients improve their appearance by removing excess tissue, fat and skin to create a smaller, firmer upper arm. Patients that undergo an Arm Lift are unable to improve the shape and look of their upper arm through exercise.

For patients who have not undergone obesity surgery and have good skin elasticity, the Arm Lift can be done through Liposuction.

THE PROCEDURE

Generally, the amount of excess skin and tissue to be removed will determine the length and placement of the incisions. For patients that require limited surgeries, a short incision is usually made in the armpit, resulting in a small scar. Patients that require more extensive surgeries will have an incision that runs from elbow to shoulder, on the upper inner arm or on the back of the upper arm. Dr. Solomon then tightens the ligaments and removes excess skin and fat.

After the surgery, the arms are bandaged and a compression garment is worn to minimize swelling. Drainage tubes may also be placed to prevent fluid build up.

Most of Dr. Solomon's patients can go back to work in about 1-2 weeks; swelling may persist for a few months.

ARE THERE ANY RISKS?

As with any surgical procedure, Thigh Lift and Arm Lift surgery comes with some risk. These include swelling, pain and infection. Fortunately, these are rare and any unforseen complications can be easily controlled with medications.

Dr. Solomon's patients are extremely happy with the outcome of their procedures, especially after having done the hard work of losing the weight in the first place! The Thigh and Arm Lift gives patients a much-needed self-esteem boost and they go on to lead happy lives with a renewed sense of confidence. .
