LABIA MINORA REDUCTION
(Genital Cosmetic Surgery for Women)

Female genitalia is a highly sensitive subject, one that is not normally discussed. Yet for many women, their genitalia is a subject of embarrassment. Women may have oversized genital lips that result in pain and discomfort during athletics or sexual intimacy. Some women also have thick or asymmetrical labia that are visible through tight or clingy clothing, making them feel self-conscious and uncomfortable.

Women who are suffering from embarrassment or loss of self-esteem due to the size or appearance of the labia can elect to have surgery to enhance the appearance of the vaginal area. This procedure is commonly known as Labiaplasty, or Vaginal Rejuvenation, and it aims to tighten the tissues of the labia. You could think of Labiaplasty as a 'facelift' for the labia.

Dr. Solomon has over 11 years' experience in performing Labiaplasty and has done hundreds of the procedures during this time. He was also known as the 'resident expert' in Labiaplasty during his time as Chief of Surgery at the College of Pennsylvania and Hahnemann University.

What Is The Procedure?

Women who choose to have Labiaplasty surgery often feel self-conscious and embarrassed during sexual intercourse. Fortunately, enhancing the appearance of the labia can be performed by a skilled surgeon like Dr. Solomon.

Depending on the needs and aesthetic goals of the patient, there are 3-4 different techniques for the surgery. Women's anatomies vary greatly from woman to woman, so Dr. Solomon gives each woman a confidential, individual exam and consultation.

Dr. Solomon performs Labiaplasty with aim of reshaping or reducing the labia minora by recontouring the labia, resulting in a more symmetrical appearance. Incisions are made inside the labia, with the resulting scars being both minimal and hidden.

LABIAPLASTY FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS:

Q - How long does the surgery take?
A - Generally, the surgery takes about one hour.

Q - What causes misshapen labia?
A - Misshapen or large labia can be caused by injuries, sexual intercourse, pregnancy and childbirth or the aging process.

Q - Does the surgery hurt?
A - No - the surgery is done under either local or general sedation. Any pain during recovery is easily controlled with medication.

Q - Is there noticeable scarring?
A - No - the skin of the labia is much like the skin on the inside of your mouth. Any scarring will be minimal, and Dr. Solomon makes the incisions inside the natural folds of the skin, so they are hidden.

Q - Will I notice a change in sexual sensation or urination?
A -  If you had lost sensation due to the size or excess skin of the labia, you may well experience a positive change during intercourse! There is usually no change in urinary habits.

Q - What about recovery time?
A -  Recovery time is about one month. During this time, Dr. Solomon encourages patients to use warm compresses and Epsom Salt baths to assist with the healing process.

The embarrassment and loss of self-esteem due to the unattractive appearance of the labia is something that no woman should have to suffer with. If you are dissatisfied with the appearance of the labia, or are experiencing pain and discomfort, then Dr. Solomon encourages you to call his office for a confidential consultation.
