GYNECOMASTIA

WHAT IS GYNECOMASTIA?

In an image-conscious world, a man's chest is the ultimate symbol of masculinity and virility. This is not true for men suffering from Gynecomastia, a common medical condition that is characterized by fat deposits in the breast area. These fat deposits are unresponsive to diet and exercise and affect about 40% of men. Why don't you know any man suffering from Gynecomastia? Because they often cover up their chests due to embarrassment.

Dr. Solomon's goal for Gynecomastia surgery is to restore the masculine contours of a man's chest and improve his self-esteem and self-image.

WHAT CAUSES IT?

In many cases of Gynecomastia, the cause is unknown. It is thought that it is genetic; some men get the condition during puberty, then as they age it goes away. Some other causes of Gynecomastia include:

. Androgen resistance
. Steroids
. Medications
. Alcohol

In men with Gynecomastia, the condition persists well into adulthood. The good news is that Dr. Solomon can treat the condition easily through surgery, and a man's self-esteem and confidence can be restored.

For men suffering with Gynecomastia, the psychological results can be insidious. They may not want to take their shirts off in public and wear very large clothing. A man's self-image may be damaged and they may have trouble in their relationships with the opposite sex due to the condition.

WHAT IS THE PROCEDURE?

Dr. Solomon will give each patient an individual consultation where he will answer patient questions and perform an examination. Dr. Solomon listens to the patient's expectations for the surgery and ensures that their aesthetic goals will be met.

The Gynecomastia surgical procedure really depends on the extent of the condition. Most of Dr. Solomon's patients require liposuction alone to remove the excess fat. Dr. Solomon has experienced great results with all types of liposuction, including the newer tumnescent technique. In more extensive cases, removal of actual breast tissue may be required, in addition to liposuction. If this is the case, Dr. Solomon will make a small incision at the edge of the areola and excise the tissue.

WHAT ABOUT SCARRING?

Dr. Solomon knows how important a man's chest and appearance are - so he makes the smallest possible incisions that result in minimal scarring. In general, scars average less than one inch.

RECOVERY

After surgery, Dr. Solomon will give pain medications to help with any chest discomfort. Patients can expect to experience mild bruising, pain and swelling. A compression vest will need to be worn for a few weeks after the procedure.

Most of Dr. Solomon's patients are up and about in just a few days, with complete recovery in a few weeks.

Most of Dr. Solomon's patients are completely ecstatic with the outcome of their surgeries. Many remark that they wish they had known that Gynecomastia could be corrected so quickly and easily. Patients that undergo the procedure experience a tremendous self-image boost and renewed confidence - in addition to the more masculine silhouette that they always wanted.
